This is a French-made (presumably) botanical or entomological microscope. The maker is unknown. It measures 4¾-inches in height as shown in the photos. It focuses by movement of the stage utilizing a rack and pinion with the rack enclosed in the tube on which the stage slides. It is supplied with three screw-together objectives, which can be use individually or in combinations to vary the magnification. Also included is a brass live box, a glass stage insert, and five paper covered specimen slides by Bourgogne.

The stage focusing mechanism, the shape of the knob, and the construction of the mirror are very similar to that used in a group of other instruments in this collection suggesting that they all may have been made by the same firm.
