At the time this microscope was produced the McIntosh
Battery and Optical Co. of Chicago manufactured
several different microscope models. Among these were
the New Clinical Microscopes No.'s 1 and 2, the
Scientific Microscopes No.'s 1 and 2, and the
Professional model. The latter had the unique ability
of being detachable and used as a projection
microscope (The
earliest version of this type of microscope is
present in this collection). The New
Clinical model No. 2 differed from the No.1 only
by having a rack and pinion coarse focusing
mechanism in addition to the fine focusing
mechanism. With optics, this microscope was priced at
$37.00 in 1895. Some of these microscopes are
described in the
1895 catalog of Stereopticons and Sciopticons.
