This is a early form of
the small model drum type microscope dating prior to
1850. It was made by Camille
Sébastien Nachet (1799-1881), one of the foremost
French manufacturers of microscope during the period.
The microscope is supplied with two eyepieces and three
objectives which are stored in a small mahogany box.
The microscope also is supplied with a stage condenser
for illuminating opaque specimens. In contrast to small
model
drum microscopes made later where the fine focus
mechanism moves the limb and the attached tube, the
fine focus mechanism on this microscope moves the
stage.
