Gundlach microscope patent us182919

Patent Oct. 3, 1876

Bausch & Lomb Optical Co., Rochester NY, #1364. A rare transitional model, c. 1880 and case

This microscope incorporates features found in the earlier Bausch & Lomb microscopes designed by Ernst Gundlach with additions usually associated with later models such as the Investigator and Universal microscopes. This microscope is similar to the earlier Research Model, but it has a brass limb and a round stage. In addition, like some of the later models, it has a focusing sub-stage and the arm holding the sub-stage and mirror can swing and even be positioned above the stage. The accessories consist of a single B&L objective with canister, two eyepieces, and a sub-stage Wale type iris diaphragm. The serial number, 1364, is stamped onto the inside bottom of the storage case.
