Yawman & Erbe (unsigned)

Monocular microscope, c. 1880

Yawman & Erbe (unsigned). Monocular microscope, c. 1880 Yawman & Erbe (unsigned). Monocular microscope, c. 1880

While this microscope is unsigned, an identical example is known marked "Y&E" on the mirror bar presumably referring to the firm Yawman and Erbe of Rochester New York. The firm produced microscopes for only a short period of time in the 1880s. Their main product was office furniture. At one time, their microscope output was designed and possibly made by Ernst Gundlach (see the Nonpareil model microscope elsewhere on the website). This microscope however does not have any Gundlach design influences and, although attractive from a collector's viewpoint, it is crudely designed and manufactured.
