The Zentmayer Army Hospital
Microscope
Was designed and
constructed for the U. S. A. Medical Department in
1863, but it has since been very much improved. The
Stand is sixteen inches high when arranged for use.
Body, fine adjustment, and draw-tube are precisely
the same as those of the "Intermediate". The bar is
supported by one stout pillar. It has plane and
concave mirrors, mounted similar to the former. The
stage is made of a piece of plate glass,
perforated in the centre, with brass mountings to
receive the objects, and stage forceps; has also a
stop for Maltwood's finder, and is kept down on the
stage plate by a spring with an ivory pointed
screw, similar to the revolving stage of the
"Intermediate". The accessories are attached to a
short tube below the stage, which may be removed
when oblique illumination is required. Simplicity,
steadiness, and convenience are the merits of this
Microscope.
The binocular
arrangement differs from the former only in tbe
mode of adjusting the eye-piece for the distance of
the eyes of different persons, which is
accomplished by a connecting bar.
